Ashland ADU is a compact 320-square-foot Accessory Dwelling Unit in Santa Monica designed to do more than its small footprint might suggest. Conceived as a flexible extension of the home, it shifts easily between office, guest house, dance studio, and space for gathering and entertaining.

The project extends beyond the ADU itself. We designed the surrounding courtyard and front yard as part of the same composition, using the landscape and outdoor spaces to connect the new structure back to the existing house. Together, the house, ADU, and garden form a sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces that feel connected rather than separate.
